CAROLA'S GREEN THUMB

Carola working at her Garden Shop in Heidelberg, Germany

On my visit to Germany in January 2011, I met Carola’s mother, Karla Graef, my mother’s cousin, in Tuebingen. We got to talking about the garden and she explained to me that Carola was also in love with her garden in Heidelberg. In fact she had just purchased an additional piece of land for a wild garden in the country. In Germany you call these private garden plots “Schraebergaerten”. I also learned that Carola actually works at a Gaertnerei Hoffmann. And as our communication began to grow I also found out that she is expanding her knowledge of the garden to helping a garden contractor select the right plants for the right site. See, gardeners live all over the globe. I hope to visit Carola’s garden someday in the summer.
