BUILD YOUR SOIL & THE PLANTS SHALL THRIVE!

From one Gardener to Another! This is great stuff!
You are supporting a Colorado Proud Company.

As I came out of my Soil Amending Class last week, I wondered why my plants were doing so well. I decided to check out the Richlawn website to investigate the details of EKO Claybuster. I was happy to find out that I had made the good decision to add this bag of soil to my new plantings of scrubs and trees. I also learned that you can add this to your vegetable garden for all my veggie friends in class. I now understand that Richlawn makes lawn products as well. Someone else will have to test that since I am not a Lawn Gal. Let me know how it works if you do! Their website will give you examples. Including the lawns at The Broadmoor!

NATIVE TEXTURE & DESIGN

Pots as Design

What do you think of these pots in the Landscape?
Are the pots bottomless so your can create soil texture interface?
They add such great texture on this hill!
What a great idea!

MY HIKING DOG

Nola "Bear" Wood

Nola is a gift from my oldest daughter who moved to Hollywood where the dog did not find happiness. Nola returned to Colorado to live with her Grandma and has found happiness amongst the foothills of Colorado. She is a hiking dog that knows all the trails on the Front Range. For me she is my hiking companion. She loves the outdoors as much as I do.

BACKYARD CHALLENGES

The task of understanding the slope..

How to tackle this yard design? Where do you start? How do you select and design on a steep slope? What kind of plants do you select? A mountain hill of native plants with rock terracing is my vision. The mountain faces southeast for good morning sun. The soil test revealed moderate clay soil.  As for the water run off, only time shall tell. I would think the plants will need more water than usual. Stay tuned as the transformation takes shape this Spring.................

TRAIL MOMENTS

Fresh snow in the morning light
Nola and I were the first hikers on the trail covered in white fluffy snow. Up early, out by 7:30 am to the chill of the fresh air. We took the Mount Falcon Eastside Trailhead and climbed up to the peak. This frozen moment in time was one of my favorite shots of the day. The snow was glistening in the light. The natural snow cones on the Rabbitbush looked lovely.

COLORADO GARDEN CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

I was selected to participate in the 2012 Spring Program. I created this slide show for the interview. It tracks the growth of my garden over the last 5 years. It is my hope that the program will help me grow my knowledge of the gardening in the micro-climates of Colorado.
I am in my 4th week of the program and am learning much more that anticipated.  I am meeting many different kinds of gardeners all interested in touching nature in their own way.  All week long I look forward to sharing in ideas, experiences and happenings with gardeners. The biggest reward has been the way I see the natural landscape around me.
